All at once, lunaria annua which decorates the hill behind our house and the neighborhood sprout and look succulent.
Here's a root breaking out of its seed coat and sneaking its way into the ground. I'm not sure if this is actually a lunaria, the seed seems rounder and lighter than it's supposed to be.
By the time winter's over, all the dark seeds of this plant fall from their wind-ravaged translucent seed pods.
When I saw this plant last spring, I thought of it as an invasive weed. It's just ubiquitous around here, but the seed pods in the fall are so pretty, so I appreciate them.
They spread so easily though, so I just pulled some seedlings from our fence line. I'm sure if no one did, the yard would be completely full of them within a few years.
