October tomatoes

Frost last night so we picked tomatoes and some other things.

Most of them were green but some of them were getting there with redness and ripeness. Most of them were beautifully striped.

I'm not sure what kind of tomato this is. It was grown from seed collected by a friend who didn't know what it was except that it's a "heirloom." It's crazy that these fruits came from a seed I started indoors back in April.  Next year, we hope to expand our growing space with a bank of deep but narrow raised beds (call them planters if you like) for more tomatoes.

Since we have a basket full of green tomatoes, we are hoping to make some pickles out of them like the ones a friend prepared and shared with us this summer. Delicious.

Also harvested: four jalapeno peppers, a colander full of tomatillos, more shallots

Still out there: more tomatillos (they won't grow anymore but we'll harvest more later for chutney), spinach beet greens, beets, mustard greens, cilantro (any chance for coriander seeds?), and maybe a few carrots. I wish I knew how to grow carrots well.
