Air

In the meantime, while we wait for seeds to sprout and the soil to warm up even more, I'm tending to a crop of airplants indoors. This one is called Stricta and is the most beautiful gray-light purple.

Airplants work well for us because we have cats who like to eat houseplants. The epiphytes don't need soil and can more easily be kept out of their reach. This one, butzii, is just fine hanging gently on a nail.

Aeranthos is blooming! Airplants, or tillandsias, only bloom once. They then start producing "pups." They can live for quite a while after they bloom. This one floats in a glass orb thing that hangs from the ceiling.

Funkiana fits perfectly into a piece of airy basalt I found a few years ago.
