For some reason, I didn't get around to planting shallots last fall, but in early April, I thought maybe I could still grow some. I planted six or seven bulbs from last year's harvest. Lots of cold weather followed, so maybe the shallots will develop.
The strong stalks seem to indicate they are on track. When the stalks start to fall outward, the bulbs are almost ready to harvest. The bulbs get so big, they crowd each other and push to the surface.
French shallots are a fun, energetic allium to grow.
The shallots are looking great. I can't wait to start making soup.
