Just the thing

About to steep Thai basil and jambu (spilanthes, toothache plant) for a nice before-bed sip of something warm.

This is always a nice combo and a good way to use the flowering tips of basil.

  1. I know all about Basil, but jambu, toothache plant I have never heard of. I suppose it was a herb used when people had toothache? Or am I wrong?

  2. Hi Janet, The flowers and leaves have a mild numbing effect.

    Some people say it feels like there's Pop Rocks in your mouth if you chew a whole button. Taste-wise, it's kind of like a lightly salty celery-leaf. Some do use it medicinally, but I mostly like it because it's a cheery-looking flower.
